Carrington Estate
Carrington Farm dominated North Carterton stretching from the town to the foothills, with some 6000 acres. It's history began in the 1870's when the Eagle family established a store on the main road. This was purchased by the reverend William Booth who had emigrated from England and proceeded to establish a sawmilling business close by.
He was a successful and prominent citizen and he created a grand homestead which he named after Lord Carrington with whom he had an earlier association in England.
This grand homestead, with it's extensive gardens which were laid out in 1912 by renowned landscape architect Alfred Buxton, is today a landmark in the Carterton region.
Much of the land was acquired by the New Zealand Goverment for returned soldiers resettlement and this remaining land is the final opportunity to share in this historic precinct.
